SATURDAY 26th JULY, 2003
In aid of Callander's Baden Powell Hall Restoration Fund & Callander Youth Project
The show was, again, well attended, with exhibitors and competitors, coming from a very wide area. The judge for the Breed and Novelty Classes, Mrs. Jane Molineux and her steward, Mrs. Margaret Workman, commented favourably on the level of entries. and to all, I give grateful thanks. A special thanks goes to the 'locals', from Callander and the surrounding area, who are coming to the show, in increasing numbers. I hope you all enjoyed your day.
The Kennel Club Good Citizen Bronze Level attracted 14 dogs, this time, 13 of whom passed. The little one that was 'Not Ready' was only a puppy.
It is the dog, who gains the certificate, not the handler. Once the dog has passed, it can not take that level again and, therefore, numbers fall slightly each year.
The examiner, Police Dog Handler PC Alan Tennant of Central Scotland Police, enjoyed his day, 'getting hands on' with the pet dogs, and particularly enjoyed working with the young handlers. Constable Tennant expressed his satisfaction at the numbers taking and passing the test: In order of working, they are:
Bonny (Border Collie) with Gemma McCandless of Glasgow
Holly (Sheltie) with Colin Johnson of Dundee
Clint (Crossbreed) with Lynne Cavanagh of Stenhousemuir
Poppy (Staffie) with Craig Clennell of New Biggin by sea
Zac (Border Collie) with Jennifer Kerr of St.Ninians
Molly (Giant Schnauzer) with Paul Meisak of Cumbernauld
Craiginlea Easterbalbdh (Hungarian Vizsla) with Patrica Savoy of W. Lothian
Piper (Lab) with Evie Johnston of Livingston
Bobby Blue (Blue Merle Collie) with Kelly McCandless of Glasgow
Amber (Jack Russell X Dachshund) with Linda McTaggart of Bonnybridge
Ellie (Jack Russell Terrier) with Natasha Bilimoria of Kinkell Bridge
Tasha (GSD) with William Leckie of Callander
William (Yorkie) with Paul Whitmore of Callander
Many congratulations to you all. Once again, The Kennel Club were pleased with the number taking part.
For the first time, obedience classes were scheduled at this show. The judges were Mrs. Joan Day (St. Andrew's) and Mrs. Isobel Harris (Dollar). The judges seemed to be reasonably happy at the numbers attracted and, I hope, enjoyed their day.

Yet again, my sincere thanks go to Senior Show Assistant, Diana Long, from Stoke-on-Trent. Diana, I could not have done it without you, Thanks too to Edith Smith of Callander for helping on the day with 'booking-in', and to the five Callander Guides, Patricia MacDonald, Rebecca Davis, Chloe Webber, Mhairi Lloyd, Lucy Omen and Guide Leader Margaret Davis for their efficient help with Kennel Club Good Citizen Scheme admin. and Obedience scoreboarding. Finally, many thanks to Ian Mitchell and William Jackson of Arden House, for obtaining so much sponsorship for this show from the Callander Business Association, and to my friends, and those of my neighbours, for their generous donations.
The total amount raised is £373. 50, and divided equally between the BP Hall Restoration Fund and Callander Youth Project.
My thanks to Danny McKirgan and Fraser McKenzie of Callander & District Round Table, for their continued support for this event.
Running any event is hard work; running it alone is a nightmare and would be impossible, without of the help of willing supporters. The very positive remarks from exhibitors and the very nice letter, received from a lady, who came all the way from Carnoustie, make all the hard work, worthwhile. I have already been asked to do another show next year...............
